Established in 2019, the Centre for Gender Equity and Women Welfare at B.H. College embodies the institution's dedication to fostering a fair and supportive environment. This centre serves as a hub for initiatives dedicated to advancing the rights and well-being of women and addressing gender-related challenges on campus and beyond. Offering a range of support services, skill development programs, awareness campaigns and lectures, it stands as a testament to the college's commitment to fostering an inclusive and egalitarian educational environment. The Centre for Gender Equity actively contributes to creating a campus atmosphere where all students can thrive, regardless of gender.

Aims and Objectives:
Promoting Gender equality: To actively advocate for and foster an environment where gender equality is not only recognized but actively promoted within the college Community and beyond.

Empowerment of women: To empower women through various programs, workshops, and resources that enhances their academic, personal, and professional growth.

Addressing Gender-based issues: To address and combat gender-based issues on campus and beyond by offering a platform for reporting, providing support services, and implementing preventive measures.

Creating Awareness: To organise awareness campaigns, seminars, and events that educate the college community about gender-related issues, promoting sensitivity and understanding.

Anti-Ragging Committee: Wall painting Competition (Theme: Anti-Ragging)The IQAC, B.H. Women’s Cell: Lecture on women empowerment and career opportunities, date: 14.06.2022Smt. Lakhimi Dutta, ACS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Barpeta district was present as the Resource Person. The program was attended by 224 nos. of faculty members and the students. Women’s Cell: Celebration of International Women’s Day, date: 08.03.2023On March 8th 2023, International Women’s Day was observed in the Seminar Hall of B.H.College, Howly under the aegis of the B.H. Collge Women’s Cell. The theme of the meeting, “Digit ALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality”, remained the same as set forth by the United Nations Organisation. The meeting was presided over by Dr. Rodali Talukdar, seniormost member of B.H. College Women’s Cell. Dr. Jinakshi Chutia, Secretary of B.H. College Women’s Cell, outlined the purpose of the meeting. The meeting’s Keynote Speaker, Dr. Nabajit Das, Assistant Professor discussed women’s empowerment in relation to nations of different parts of the world viz. Vietnam and Kenya. He exhorted the students who were present at the event to develop self-learning and independence in every field. Another speaker at the event, Ms. Bidisha Duwarah, Assistant Professor, Dept. of English delivered an online audio lecture emphasizing the value of digital learning. She also exhorted the students to educate their own families and neighbours about digital technologies. She also talked about digital equity for women. The students were urged by Mrs. Usha Das, Associate Professor, Dept. of Assamese, to develop their digital literacy and also recommended to read online journals which are available free of cost. Prof. Sailen Kakati, Associate Professor, Dept. of Economics also motivated the students by speaking about Muhammed Yunus, the laureate of the Nobel Peace Prize on how he used simple innovative techniques for empowerment and uplifting of rural people. Dr. Deepmoni Das, Associate Professor and HoD, Dept. of Engilsh also gave an enriching speech related to women empowerment. Dr. Rabinjyoti Khataniar, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Economics & Coordinator, IQAC addressed the audience and emphasized upon Gender Equality and use of ICT tools in education. Dr. B.C. Pathak, the respected Principal of B.H. College, Howly shared his insights and experiences regarding the subject matter. The event could gather a sizable faculty members and students’ attendance. The event was really inspiring which enlightened the students and teachers alike and was in consonance with the theme put forwarded by the UNO. Dr. Padma Sarkar, Assistant Professor offered the Vote of Thanks at the conclusion of the meeting.

Medical Cell: Talk on “Habits for Good Health”The Medical Cell of B.H. College, Howly organized a Popular Talk on “Habits for Good Health” on 03/06/2023. The resource person for the talk was Dr. Dipankar Das, Chief Interventional Cardiologist of Swagat Hospital, Guwahati. He emphasized about the habits that one can form in order to lead a healthy life. He reiterated about the food habits which are major underlying factor for various diseases. Furthermore, he talked about how stress leads to different diseases and how to alleviate stress. For students he highlighted how stress of preparation before the exam can have a negative impact on their health and therefore urged those to continuously study for shorter period of time but on a regular basis rather than studying everything at one go. He also took part in an interactive session with the students as well as the teachers. He cleared their doubts very well. Faculty members as well as students from different departments were present. On that event, Dr. Bhushan Chandra Pathak, Principal, B.H. College, Howly also contributed his enlightening speech on emotional well being. The program was concluded by a vote of thanks by Dhiraj Sharma, Assistant Professor, Deptt of Chemistry of the college.

Medical Cell: Free Heart Screening CampOn 3rd June, 2023, a Free Heart Screening Camp was organized by the Medical Cell of B.H. College, Howly in collaboration with Swagat Hospital, Maligaon, Guwahati at B.H. College, Howly especially for teaching and non- teaching staff of the college. The Heart Screening Camp was headed by renowned cardiologist Dr. Dipankar Das. Along with Dr. Das his team members also offered their service. The venue of the event was B.H. College Guest House from 11-00 am onwards. Almost all the teaching as well as non teaching staff participated in the health check-up.

Red Ribbon Club: Blood Donation Camp Theme “Donate Blood and Save Lives” Occasion Noble Cause Date 22nd March, 2023Red Ribbon Club, B. H. College, Howly has organised a Blood Donation Camp to encourage youths, students and teacher for the noble cause of the society. 32 students and 5 teachers have joined the campaign. More than 60 students and teacher have checked their hemoglobin level. But due to high allergy level, blood already donated and the cycle did not completed 3 months yet, high blood pressure, low blood pressure, sugar level, less than 12.6 hemoglobin level; some of the donors were unable to donate blood. This type of Campaign is very essential for the College students as well as the teachers because we all are born not only for ourselves but also to do something for the society at large

and Prevention Programme on AIDS among the students, teaching and

Prof., Department of Zoology, B. H. College, Howly were the resource person who enlightened the programme with their immense knowledge and practical examples.133 students and 34 teaching and non-teaching staff have joined the program. Red ribbons were distributed among all the fraternity of B. H.
College as a symbol of remembrance and support to the AIDS affected
people. This type of awareness programme is very essential for the
college student to safeguard them from the ill effects of AIDS and its
prevention.

at B.H. College playground. Total 6 number of teams participated in this tournament. The tournament was inaugurated by District Transport Officer Barpeta. Dr Bhushan Ch. Pathak Principal B. H College Howly, donor Pankaj kumar Das and Maniruddin Ahmed, all the teachers and all the members and students of B. H College Howly were present in the opening ceremony. The team of Bajali and Howly entered in the finals. Bajali won against Howly by 3-1 set. Also a girls exhibition Volleball match was played between the B. H College girls team and Barpeta girls team. The first prize was donated by Pankaj Kumar Das MVI Barpeta and the 2nd prize was donated by Maniruddin Ahmed, Social Worker Howly.
