About NSS Cell

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunity to the student youth of 11th & 12th Class of schools at +2 Board level and student youth of Technical Institution, Graduate & Post Graduate at colleges and University level of India to take part in various government led community service activities & programmes.The sole aim of the NSS is to provide hands on experience to young students in delivering community service. Since inception of the NSS in the year 1969, the number of students strength increased from 40,000 to over 3.8 million up to the end of March 2018 students in various universities, colleges and Institutions of higher learning have volunteered to take part in various community service programmes. At present, NSS Unit B. H. College Howly has near about 130 volounteered.
Objectives of NSS
The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are :
1. understand the community in which they work
2. understand themselves in relation to their community
3. identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving
4. develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
5. utilise their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems
6. develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities
7. gain skills in mobilising community participation
8. acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes
9. develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and
10. practise national integration and social harmony
Motto

The Motto of NSS "Not Me But You", reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. NSS helps the students development & appreciation to other person's point of view and also show consideration towards other living beings. The philosophy of the NSS is a good doctrine in this motto, which underlines on the belief that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society as a whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.

Run for UnityB. H. College N.S.S. unit has organised an unity-run programme on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the Iron Man of India Sardar Vallabhai Patel on 31st October 2022. Unity Run programme has been conducted between 7 AM to 9 AM from B. H. College to Motupuri and return back to college.

Blood Donation CampA blood donation camp has been organised by B.H. College N.S.S Unit on 22nd March 2023 in collaboration with Red Ribbon Club and FAAMCH, Barpeta. 31 numbers of volunteers of NSS and more than 10 numbers of teachers of B. H. College have donated blood.

Plastic Collection CentreTo make our institution a plastic-free campus a Plastic Collection Centre has been set up by B.H. College N.S.S. unit for collecting plastic waste. On 18th November 2022 Plastic Collection Centre has been collected 1 K.G. of plastic waste from each student from the college campus and surrounding areas.
